THE ’80s, ’90s & 2000s. STILL IN THE PICTURE.
NOSTALGIASIGNAL / STILL BROADCASTING

About NostalgiaSignal

NostalgiaSignal is an independent magazine about the games, technology, movies, television, music and toys of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. We care about the big releases and the little rituals: rewinding a tape, waiting for a show, choosing a game for the weekend or finding a folded note in a school bag.

Our aim is to make those memories worth revisiting. A good story can bring a favorite object back into focus while helping explain where it came from, what it changed and why it still matters.

Memories with context

Nostalgia did not happen on the same schedule in every country or every home. A cartoon might arrive years after its original premiere. A console could be shared, rented or first encountered at a friend’s house. We distinguish release dates from the different ways people experienced the things that followed.

The archive combines retrospectives, editorial selections, histories of everyday objects and reporting on contemporary returns. Explore the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, or choose a topic from the main menu.

How to read our selections

A list of favorites is an editorial choice, not a universal measurement. When a story discusses sales, box office or audience figures, it should identify the source and the period covered. Confirmed announcements, rumors and cultural interpretation are different kinds of information, and our writing should make the distinction clear.

Remembering something fondly does not require pretending it was perfect. A frustrating controller, a limited format or a flawed favorite can be part of the story, too.

Sources and images

For dates, announcements and technical details, we prioritize the people and organizations responsible for the work, alongside identifiable archives, museums and other relevant sources. Links within articles let readers check important facts and continue exploring.

Image credits identify photographers and licenses where required. A recent photograph of an old object is not presented as a scene photographed in the object’s original decade. Generated illustrations should be identified as illustrations and must not be used as evidence that a historical event occurred.

Advertising and independence

Advertising placements are labeled and kept separate from editorial content. If a story contains paid sponsorship or an affiliate relationship, that relationship should be disclosed clearly where readers encounter it.

Brand names, films, songs, characters and product names belong to their respective owners. NostalgiaSignal is an independent publication; mentioning them does not imply an official relationship or endorsement.
